Hemali Joshi grew up in Laudium, a town situated
southwest of Pretoria. She spent her childhood
years in the beautiful Jacaranda city and in her
later years moved to Edenvale, Johannesburg,
where she attended school and continues to
live today.
Hemali is a product of old RAU and present-day
UJ. She completed her master’s in Anthropology
with a study focused on identity on Facebook.
Currently Hemali is pursuing her PhD in urban
anthropology and is fascinated by ‘performance
of the city’. Her research interests include
teaching and learning with technology, urban
anthropology, performance anthropology, digital
anthropology and more.
